Minzhong Yu, PhD, is Assistant Professor in Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. His primary research interest is in the mechanisms and the therapies of retinal degenerations. His recently research involves the study of antioxidants in the treatment of photoreceptor degeneration in the mouse models of retinitis pigmentosa. The underlying mechanisms related to endoplasmic reticulum stress, oxidative stress, inflammation etc. are being explored. He is the PI of four research grants in this field, including a NIH R01 grant. Besides the study of retinal neurobiology, he has extensive experience in the research and lab management of clinical electrophysiology of vision in patients, experimental electrophysiology of vision in animals. In 1998, he published the first paper about the characteristics of multifocal visual evoked potentials in patients. In recently years, he has been successfully applying a special technique - DC electroretinography in research, which provides a unique method to evaluate the function of retinal pigment epithelium in animals for the studies of the phenotypes of genes or treatment effects etc.
