Professor of Ophthalmology, head of the ophthalmological department for surgery of the anterior and posterior segment surgery in canton Solothurn, Switzerland
Prof. Dr. Efdal Y?ru?k (FEBO) completed his ophthalmological training at the University Eye Hospital of Tu?bingen, where he acquired the German and European specialist recognition for ophthalmology in 2008. At the same time, he was appointed senior consultant and head of the eye bank. In 2010 Prof. Y?ru?k received the "Venia Legendi" for ophthalmology, in 2012 he was appointed full professor, in 2013 he was finally appointed Deputy Director of the University Eye Clinic of Tu?bingen. In 2016, Prof. Y?ru?k accepted a call as head of department to the eye clinic of Mu?lheim / Ruhr, one of the oldest eye clinics in Germany with a longstanding tradition which was built in 1907. Since 2019, Prof. Y?ru?k has been the head of the ophthalmological department for surgery of the anterior and posterior segment surgery in canton Solothurn, Switzerland.
His main areas of work and research include lamellar corneal surgery and tissue engineering - he was strongly involved in the development of lamellar corneal surgery (DMEK and DALK).
He has developed several ophthalmological techniques that have been published in high-quality journals. In addition to his surgical activity, he is heavily involved in research and has already received several awards for his publications. In 2012 he received the Leonhard Klein award, the video award in 2013 and the poster award of the German Ophthalmic Surgeons Society (DOC) in 2015 for his efforts in the field of lamellar corneal surgery. He serves as a reviewer for high-ranked ophthalmology journals and also shares his knowledge in relevant ophthalmology books as an author.
