Ruikang Wang, MD

Professor of Bioengineering and Ophthalmology, University of Washington, Seattle, USA

Dr Wang graduated from Glasgow University in 1995 with a PhD degree in optical engineering. After two years postdoctoral research training at Glasgow, he joined as a Lecturer, and then, Senior Lecturer in Bioimaging Science with Keele Medical School, England. In 2002, he became a chair professor in Biomedical Optics with Cranfield University, England, where he created and directed Biophotonics and Imaging Laboratory. In 2005, he joined Oregon Health and Science University, Oregon, as a full professor in Biomedical Engineering, where he was the Director of Biophotonics and Imaging Laboratory. Currently, Prof Wang is a full professor with appointments in the Departments of Bioengineering and Ophthalmology at the University of Washington, and directs the Biophontonics and Imaging Laboratory.

He was responsible for the development of optical microangiography that is now generally known as optical coherence tomography based angiography. He is an elected fellow of American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), Optical Society of America (OSA), and International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE).  His current research interests include ophthalmic imaging, biophotonics and imaging, optical coherence tomography, optical microangiography, photoacoustic imaging and their applications in neurology, ophthalmology, dermatology and cancer. He published more than 300 journal articles in these fields of interests (with an h index = 51. Source: Google Scholar).
