Dr. Darren Ting is a Medical Research Council / Fight for Sight Clinical Research Fellow at the University of Nottingham, UK. After earning his medical degree at the University of Edinburgh at the age of 22, he went on to complete his 7-year ophthalmology specialist training in the North of England, UK, where he served as the Chief Resident of Ophthalmology and the Cornea & Refractive Surgery Lead of the North East Trainee Research Network (NETRiON).
He has a strong interest in training, education and research, particularly in the area of corneal infection, corneal transplants, cataract surgery, artificial intelligence, microbiology, antimicrobial therapy, and drug discovery / development. So far, he has earned >20 ophthalmology awards, including the MRC / Fight for Sight Fellowship, the inaugural Fight for Sight / John Lee, Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth) Primer Fellowship, FRCOphth Crombie Medal (gold medal in FRCOphth part 1 exam), and DRCOphth Cornwall Prize (gold medal in DRCOphth exam), amongst others. He has also published around 70 peer-reviewed papers, including 5 book chapters and a book (published by the Oxford University Press), and delivered >30 international / national presentations. He currently serves as an editorial board member of Frontiers in Medicine (Ophthalmology) and a reviewer for British Journal of Ophthalmology, PLoS One, Eye journal, Cornea, Acta Ophthalmologica, and many others.
