Pedram Hamrah, MD, FRCS, FARVO, is a clinician-scientist with a focus on corneal immunology and neuroscience, ocular imaging (immuno-imaging), ocular surface diseases, and corneal neuropathic pain. He received his medical degree from the University of Cologne in Germany, and performed his residency and chief residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Louisville. He has completed fellowships in Ocular and Transplantation Immunology at the Schepens Eye Research Institute, and in Ocular Immunology at the University of Louisville, as well as a two-year clinical fellowship in Cornea, External Diseases and Refractive Surgery at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.
He is currently on faculty at the departments of Ophthalmology and Bioengineering at Tufts University, where he is the director of clinical research and director of the Center for Translational Ocular Immunology. In addition, he is a faculty member at the immunology, neuroscience, and cell, molecular and developmental biology graduate programs at the Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences at Tufts. Throughout his career, he has focused on the discovery, patient care, and teaching. Dr. Hamrah has been directing both strong laboratory science and prolific clinical research programs, currently holding 2 laboratory NIH R01 and one clinical R61/R33 grant awards, in addition to numerous foundation and industry grants. Prior to joining Tufts, he was on faculty at the Cornea Service of the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School for 7 years, where he was also the founder and director of the Ocular Surface Imaging Center and the Henry Allen Cornea Scholar.
Dr. Hamrah currently serves on over a dozen editorial boards, is the associate editor for The Ocular Surface and TVST, section editor for Eye, and assistant editor at Ocular Immunology and Inflammation. Dr. Hamrah has been continuously serving on the Members-in-Training, Professional Development and Education and the Ethics and Regulations in Human Research Committees at ARVO since 2003, was Awarded the AAO Senior Achievement Award, and is an ARVO Gold Fellow.
