Dr Casalino is currently full-time consultant at the Oftalmico Hospital, ASST Fatebenefratelli Sacco, in Milan, Italy. He is fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO). His main areas of interest are vitreoretinal diseases including macular degeneration, inflammatory ocular conditions (uveitis) and inherited retinal dystrophies.

He completed his training in Ophthalmology at San Raffaele Hospital, Vita-Salute University, in Milan, Italy. He completed a 18 months fellowship in Medical Retina at the Ophthalmology Macular Service in Belfast, UK focusing on macular disorders, and a second 18 months fellowship in Medical Retina and Cataract Surgery at Kingston Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, UK focusing on uveitis and inherited retinal dystrophies.

He has been Visiting Researcher at Queen's University of Belfast, UK and has contributed to more than 40 peer-reviewed articles (http://orcid.org/0000-0002-0208-0740) and 2 book chapters in the field of Medical Retina. He has been involved in many multicenter randomized (phase II and III) clinical trials. He is part of the Retina Italian Specialists Innovation Networking Group (RISING) and he is member of several scientific societies, including the European Society of Retina Specialists.
