Dr. Marco Coassin is Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University Campus Bio-Medico of Rome, Italy. Dr. Coassin is a vitreoretinal specialist whose expertise includes vitreoretinal surgery and the care of conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, ocular trauma, retinal detachment, retinal vascular diseases and uveitis.
Dr. Coassin earned his medical degree at University Campus Bio-Medico of Rome, where he also concluded his Residency in Ophthalmology and a PhD Program in Ocular Inflammation. He completed a fellowship in Ocular Pathology at The Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute in Baltimore (USA) and a clinical fellowship in Vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, USA. In his research, Dr. Coassin studies inflammation after ocular surgery and macular pathologies requiring vitreous surgery such as lamellar macular holes. He has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications in ophthalmology. He is a member of the Italian Society of Ophthalmology (SOI) and of the Italian Vitreretinal Group (GIVRE).
