Professor of Ophthalmology, University of Poitiers, France and Chief of Ophthalmology Department in the University hospital of Poitiers
Dr. Leveziel earned his medical degree in Paris (Assistance publique-hopitaux de Paris from 1999 to 2005) and completed his residency and fellowship in ophthalmology at the Creteil eye clinic with Professors G. Soubrane and E. Souied (2006-2012). He completed his residency in Tufts Medical Center, Boston with Pr J. Seddon in 2011-2012.
Dr. Leveziel is a vitreoretinal specialist whose expertise includes vitreoretinal surgery and the care of medical retinal disorder i.e. pathologic myopia, age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy and retinal vascular diseases.He obtained his PhD in Pierre et Marie Curie University, Paris in 2008 (genetics of AMD; supervisors: Pr Souied and Pr Benlian). He currently conducts research in an INSERM research unit (INSERM 1084, Poitiers) on induced pluripotent stem cells in the field of AMD.
University and hospital practitioner in 2011-2012 in Creteil Eye University, senior university lecturer and hospital practitioner in the University Hospital of Poitiers in 2012-2013, he became a full professor in Ophthalmology, and department head in 2013.
He also belongs to the board of directors of the French Society of Ophthalmology (SFO) and has authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications in ophthalmology as well as several book chapters. He is a member of the Global Burden Disease Group and of the Organisation pour la Prévention de la Cécité (OPC) and president of the scientific committee of the association maculopathie myopique (AMAM).
