Associate Professor, Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy, Center for Biotechnology and Genomic Medicine, James & Jean Culver Vision Discovery Institute, Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University, Augusta, GA, USA
Dr. Liu is an Associate Professor at the Medical College of Georgia of Augusta University (formerly Georgia Regents University). Dr. Liu received his M.D. degree from Beijing Medical University, M.S. degree from Truman State University, and Ph.D. degree from the University of Tennessee Knoxville / Oak Ridge National Lab. Dr. Liu focuses his research in human genetics and functional genomics related with human eye disorders. He was an Assistant Professor at Duke University Center for Human Genetics and remains as an adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at Duke University School of Medicine.
The long term goal of Dr. Liu’s laboratory is to dissect age-related genetic diseases (glaucoma and keratoconus) using systematic approaches, including human genetics/epigenetics, functional genomics, and molecular/cellular biology. Our lab has extensive research experience in the area of human genetics, bioinformatics, and functional genomics using several model systems, including human samples, in vitro primary cell/tissue culture and mouse models. His research has been published in over 120 peer-reviewed articles, including Nature Genetics, PLoS Genetics, AJHG, PNAS, HMG, and IOVS. His research has been supported by NIH/NEI, several private foundations, and institutional supports. He has served as associate editors for several journals and is a guest editor for Experimental Eye Research. He has been actively involved in ARVO and its annual meetings by serving on multiple committees including the Annual Meeting Program Committee (AMPC).
