Assistant Professor, Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus and Director Pediatric Ocular Genomics Center; John Moran Eye Center, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
Research Interests: pediatric ophthalmology, amblyopia, strabismus, retinopathy of prematurity, neovascular eye disease; pediatric ocular diseases
Dr. Owen received her MD-PhD before further specializing in pediatric ophthalmic medical and surgical care, training at the John Moran Eye Center and Medical University of South Carolina Storm Eye Institute.
She is a surgeon-scientist which informs her largely translational research focus. Her program of research employs a systems biology analysis to elucidate the molecular patho-mechanisms underlying neovascular eye disease and pediatric ocular diseases, including amblyopia, strabismus and retinopathy of prematurity.
Her group further works with collaborators in pediatric critical care placental and maternal medicine to understand how childhood disease mechanisms are informed by the in-utero environment, early exposures and maternal disease.
